Provincial A/AA Intent Process

1. Player Intent to Play Provincial Level:

ALL players who are interested in playing at the Provincial level must register their intent before March 31st. Players will not be allowed to participate in any tryout session without having completed the form.

Players will need to provide the following info when they register:

  • Name of Home Association - that is St. Marys
  • Ontario Ringette Association (ORA) Number - if you don't have this on hand, please contact our Registrar, who can provide it to you.
  • Level of play the player is seeking to play (ie U12PP, U14A, etc),
  • What level they played the previous season (U10, U12, U14, etc)
  • If they are willing to travel (this means will they consider playing for teams outside their Home Association - for example, London, if St Marys doesn't have a team). This helps Associations understand if they might have players attending tryouts from other Associations.
The tryout process is very transparent. An Excel spreadsheet will be available on the WORL website from March 25th.  This spreadsheet will contain the names, by Association, of all players who have put in their intent and all Associations with provincial tryouts. This document will be updated frequently until March 31st when all intents should be completed. From April until the tryouts are finished and teams declared, it will be updated to indicate who attended tryouts at each location, who was cut, etc.

To complete your intent, please use link below.

2. WORL A/AA Declaration & Tryout Process:

If there are enough players from our Association interested in playing at the U12PP, A or AA provincial level, the St Marys Ringette Association Executive may decide to host a provincial team (or teams).  The Association would submit a Willing-to-Host Form(s) to the WORL Evaluation Committee in order to qualify as a Provincial U12PP, A or AA Level team host.

Associations will post their tryout schedule on their website and they will also be available on the WORL Intent excel spreadsheet.

All players are required to fill out a M-F-07_Player_Tryout_Notification_Form.pdf if they intend to tryout at another Association. One form will be needed for each team they are trying out for (not including their Home Association) not one for every tryout session they attend. For example, if a player wants to try out for a U16A provincial team in St. Marys, Mitchell and London, 2 forms are required, one for Mitchell and one for London). The form(s) must signed by the President of their Home Association before they can attend the tryout.

For further details on the process please refer to the WORL Policy.

3. Closest Association Matrix

In order to play for another Association, players must follow the Closest Association Matrix. This means a player cannot accept a position on a provincial team if their Home Association offers them a position on their provincial team. If their Home Association is not hosting a provincial team at their level or they were cut from that team, they must accept the offer made by the next nearest Association, if they wish to play provincially (they choose to play at the regional level for their Home Association rather than take a provincial position). For example, if a St Marys player attends provincial tryouts hosted by Mitchell, London & Dorchester and is offered spots at all three, a release would be required from their Home Association (St. Marys) and they would have to accept the offer at Mitchell, as they are closest to us. If they did not receive an offer from Mitchell, just London & Dorchester, the release from their Home Association would still be required but they would need to accept Dorchester's offer as they are closer to St Marys than London.

Players cannot 'skip' tryouts at Associations closest to them in order to avoid being selected. If a player fails to attend provincial tryouts being offered at closer Associations (including their Home Association), they will not be eligible to accept a position for any other provincial teams.

In all cases, the player cannot accept any spot on any team without the President of their Home Association signing the bottom section of the Player Tryout Release, thereby releasing them to the other team. If a player is released for 3 consecutive seasons to the same Association, they become part of that Association and no further releases are required to play with them.
