Provincial A/AA Intent Process

Provincial A/AA Intent Process

1. Player Intent to Play Provincial Level:

ALL players who are interested in playing at the Provincial level for the 2023-2024 season must register their intent before the 1st of March 2023.

Players will not be allowed to participate in any tryout session without having completed the INTENT TO TRYOUT FORM found on the WRRA website.

The tryout process is very transparent. An Excel spreadsheet will be available on the WRRA website.   This spreadsheet will contain the names, by Association, of all players who have put in their intent and all Associations with provincial tryouts. This document will be updated frequently until the final rosters are decided.

2. A/AA Declaration & Tryout Process:

If there are enough players from our Association interested in playing at the A or AA provincial level, the St Marys Ringette Association Executive may decide to host a provincial team.  SMRA submits a Willing-to-Host Form to the A/AA Play Committee and this separate committee decides by March 13th, 2023 which centre will be allowed to host which Provincial A or AA Level team. Being selected to host a provincial team does not guarantee that team will run. That is dependent on the number of players who attend and the calibre of their game play.

Associations will post their tryout schedule on their website and they will also be available on the Intent excel spreadsheet on April 2.

Players are no longer required to fill a Tryout Release form in order to attend other associations tryouts.

For further details on the process please refer to the AA-A-12A TRYOUT PROCESS 2023-2024

3. Closest Association Matrix

In order to play for another Association, players must follow the Closest Association Matrix. This means a player cannot accept a position on a provincial team if their Home Association offers them a position on its own provincial team. If their Home Association is not hosting a provincial team at their level or they were cut from that team, they must accept the offer made by the next closest Association. Declining the offer will result in play at the regional level for their Home Association.

St. Marys players will follow the matrix in this order: St. Marys > Mitchell > Dorchester > London.

You must go to your own association’s tryouts if they are holding tryouts out at the level you have put an intent in for. You may choose to attend other association tryouts as well as long as you attend all of your association tryouts.  If your association has no tryout at the level you put your intent for, you must go to the next closest association, but you may also attend other association tryouts.

In all cases, the player cannot accept any spot on any other team without the President of their Home Association signing the bottom section of the Player Tryout Release, thereby releasing them. If a player is released for 3 consecutive seasons to the same Association, they become part of that Association and no further releases are required to play with them.
