The SMRA Board and a group of SMRA members and players took the "Beyond the Locker Room Pledge" before the Board meeting on 9th January. The pledge is an initiative created by Huron County Victim Services and the Stratford Police Service in partnership with the OPP of Huron and Perth County. The pledge, which focuses on ending gender-based violence, calls on individuals to be positive role models in the locker room and community, to constantly educate ourselves and others on how to combat gender-based violence, recognize the privilege in the roles we hold, use our platform to promote the voices of others, and to recognize, challenge, and correct behaviour we witness, that contributes to gender-based violence. The Board felt it was important to take the pledge as they want Ringette to be a safe environment for athletes to come and play and feel safe to be who they are.
