Snipers Strong Showing at Regionals - Silver U19 & Fun3, and Gold for U14

The 2021/2022 season wrapped up with a strong showing by all of our teams at the regional championships, and medals for U19, U14 and Fun3 (U10) teams.

U19 had a great tournament finishing top of the group standings with 3 wins and a tie. Opening with a 4-4 tie against Kitchener on the Friday, the U19s went from strength to strength in the remaining games: 6-3 v Forest, 8-1 v London, and 7-3 v Elora Fergus. The Snipers narrowly missed out on Gold by only a 3-2 margin to Goderich in a tight final. Goals from Adrianna Black and Jessica Burlingham pulled the Snipers back into the game at the end of the first period, but that is how the game stayed and the team picked up the Silver Medal.

The U14 Team won Gold taking maximum points from their pool games, with a hard fought opening victory against Goderich, the eventual finalists. A goal from Kate Vermieren, and 2 from Charlie Henderson took the Snipers 3-1 clear, but Goderich pegged it back to 3-3 early in the second period. 2 goals from Cammie Lobb proved to be the winners though Goderich managed to pull it back to 5-4 for a tense last minute. The Snipers despatched Kitchener 7-0 and then London 2-4, before meeting Goderich again in the final. This time they dominated, winning 7-0 with goals from Kate Vermieren, Leah Van Straaten, Leah Hachler, Leighton Lichti, Melanie Goad and Carli Muir.

U12 Snipers found themselves in a tough pool, but despite this had a shot at a Bronze medal on the last day of the tournament. In the medal game against Dorchester the Snipers picked up some penalty time and lost too much ground in the first period. Although they fought hard to recover in the second period two goals from Aryn Sheldon and one from Marci Linton were not enough to close the gap.

The Fun3 Team also had a great time winning one and tying one in their pool games to achieve 2nd and secure a place in the final. In the final against Goderich goals from Mary McCutcheon and Kyla Graham kept St Marys close for most of the first period, but a clutch of goals saw Goderich pull away in the half. In the second period, despite the same goalscorers repeating their efforts Goderich saw out the game and the Snipers took a well earned Silver.

UFUN2 attended the tournament and played 2 games and had a fabulous time enjoying being Snipers at their first Regional Tournament!

As the season wraps up here is a message from Kim Garniss:

Happy Monday SMRA Families,

I am sure most of you are tired like myself from a fun filled weekend at Regionals!

I want to say a big congratulations to our UFun2, U10, U12, U14 and U19 teams that all played this weekend!

U10 and U19 came home with a silver medal and the U14 came home with a gold medal.

It has been so nice seeing all the ringette pictures floating around social media. Remember to send them to promotions@stmarysringette.ca and/or secretary@stmarysringette.ca for our yearly slideshow.

I believe in the last email I had the wrong date for the AGM, please save the date for THURSDAY June 16 via zoom. Please keep an eye out for board nominations, we are always looking for volunteers so please reach out if you are interested or have any questions.

As the season is wrapping up  in the next week or so, would like to send a quick thankyou to all our players, parents, families, coaches etc. for making this year another great one!

Thanks for letting me be your President for the 2021-2022 season!
