Message to St.Marys Ringette Members

Jan. 07, 2021

Good morning SMRA families,

Happy 2021! I want to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself. My name is Kim Garniss and until recently, I was the Vice President of SMRA and the COVID Safety Officer. I have been involved with St Marys ringette since I was 5 years old. I continued to play many years in town, on both regional and provincial teams. Fast forward several years and I am now a mom of 3 kids, working full time and a wife of a shift worker with the OPP. It’s a full plate, but I wanted to give back to the association that had given me so much.

This season has been a lot of work and it seems it will be a little bit more work. Our President, Michael Lynch has made the difficult decision to step down from his role immediately to focus on other personal commitments. This means I will assume the role of President in his place. I want my first step to be a thank you! Michael, you have been a tremendous leader for the St Marys Ringette Association and guided us through these difficult times. Your passion and commitment to ringette and the organization has been truly amazing. The time you have spent over the past 6 months, focused on endless meetings about COVID policies and procedures, player and coach development and league formation on top of running Executive meetings and dealing with the usual business of a ringette association resulted in our players getting on the ice and advancing to game play ahead of many other centres. I think it goes without saying, we are forever thankful for the season you helped set up. As you shift your focus, we send lots of love and positive vibes your way.

As far as the SMRA is concerned, I will do my best to fill the big shoes left behind but with the great team of Executive members and ringette families, like your’s, I am sure we will continue the work of returning our players to the ice. As you know, we are still in lockdown. We have not received any new updates from Ringette Ontario and the next Town Council meeting is not until Tuesday, January 19. As soon as I have new information to share, I will be in touch. Until then, let’s work hard to flatten this curve so we can get back on the ice.

Parents, I want to thank you for your dedication and commitment to the SMRA. I also want to thank you in advance for being patient with me as I learn my new role. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards

Kim Garniss
