SMRA President's Update - September 24, 2020

Sep. 24, 2020

Hi Everyone, hope you are well.  What a beautiful week so far, I hope you have enjoyed it!

Tonight we had a Zoom meeting with our Coaching staff for the 2020/2021 season to discuss the COVID protocols that will be in place for the season.  During this National Coaching Week, I thanked all of the coaches for their dedication and commitment to our association, because as we know, without them, there would be no groupings possible.  So please take a moment to thank your coaches.

Speaking of groupings, the following factors were considered when establishing groups:  player age, player skill level, family units, and position played (for the older groups). The goal was to create groups of 10 so that when we entered Stage 3 and mini league play, the same groups could be used to limit contacts and maintain consistency in terms of communication and coaching relationships.

Coaches will be reaching out to you shortly once they have their group lists.  One item in particular they will be mentioning (apart from when your first ice time is!!!), is their need for a Manager/COVID Leader for each team.  This is an essential part of the group management and your coaches will share more information with you.  Please think about helping in any way you can!

Unfortunately, all groupings have not been finalized.  U12 groupings and older have all been approved so your coaches will be reaching out to you.  U10 and younger, sorry, we are still trying to determine how best to form the groups.  This has been challenging due to the numbers and trying to maintain our mandated numbers of participants all while maintaining what the committee feels are the best options.  As soon as they are finalized, you will be notified.

Also, on our website you will see a new heading All Member Presentation  Please check it out.  It is a short, 16 minute presentation on what to expect this season and will help prepare you for the season.

Finally, some of you may have noticed a post on the SMRA social media feeds today that has since been removed.  While it was sent with the best of intentions in the hopes of recruiting more players for the FUN2 division, it did not reflect Board policy with respect to registration and as a result was removed from our feed.  We apologize for any mixed messaging this may have caused but please be assured that all business conducted by the SMRA is done in accordance with our Bylaws, and our Policies and Procedures.

Thank you Everyone.  Keep checking our webpage for updates.  See you at the rink, REAL SOON!
