St Marys Ringette Association - Provincial Q&A

Q - What is the length of the season?

A - Season runs from beginning of September to the end of the final Provincial event in March/April. All Provincial Petite Teams are given the opportunity to attend but A and AA teams need to qualify to attend. 

Q - What is level of commitment required?

A - This team needs to be the player’s first priority above all other social/extracurricular commitments.  Playing Ringette at the “A” level requires a big commitment from players, coaches, and parents.  Ice time is twice per week, plus possibly dryland training once per week.  There may be additional “homework” for all players to complete on their own, i.e. 100 shots/day.

Q - What is the cost to play Provincial?

A - The standard St Marys Ringette fees (this includes the registration fee for their age, $100.00 lottery per family, and $150.00 fundraising bond per family) plus an additional “Provincial” team fee of $130. 

Q - What if additional ice time ice required?

A - If additional ice time is required over and above the assigned ice time, a $25-$100/player fee may be requested by the coach and will be decided by the team as the year progresses.

Q - What is the cost for Tournaments?

A - Approx. $250/player for the year.  The may be higher or lower depending on the costs when entering tournaments.  This is based on a team playing in 4 tournaments throughout the year.

Q - When are the tournaments chosen?

A - The coach submits a list of 5 tournaments that they would like to attend, ranked in order of preference.  The coach also indicates how many tournaments the team wishes to attend. The tournament schedule should be known by early to mid September.

Q - How far would we need to travel for league games?

A - Games could be anywhere between Chatham and Waterloo in the Western Region.

Q - What will be required for uniform?

A - St. Marys Ringette pants are required, and can be purchased at Dunnys.  If already have navy pants new stripes can be purchased and sewed on.  Anything further will be determined at the start of the season.

Q - Are there any additional costs outside registration?

A - There are other miscellaneous costs during the year that accrue and total from $100 to $125 over the year.  They may include drinks for the players after games, conference/hospitality room rentals, team pizza dinners, and costumes for provincial opening ceremonies.

Q - Is there any opportunity to cover costs through fundraising?

A - Yes, activities or sales that do not conflict with either St.Marys Snipers fundraising or other associations in town may be considered.  Previous events included Spikes Volleyball Night.  Depending on the event anywhere from $200 to $1200 may be raised to help cover the costs of tournaments, warm up shirts, costumes, etc.  It will be up to the parent group and team management to decide on an event, and for the parent group to organize and run.
