A day for CHAMPIONS

Outstanding, Incredible, Stunning, Talented, Honourable
How do you put into words what the ladies of the St. Marys Hubbard Pharmacy/Canadatrust U14 Ringette Team has accomplished?
What do you say to acknowledge the time and effort the coaching and bench staff have put into this season?

Are there ways to say enough "thank yous" to the parents of these young ladies who make it a priority to get their daughters to their practices, games and tournaments? Today we watched 16 young ladies who are coming into their own as individuals, work as a team. That  same group of players have learned to rely on one and other. They have learned from their peers, team mates and coaches that trusting and encouraging each other leads to amazing results.
An entire season of undefeated games. Yes, you read it right. The ENTIRE season is theirs to claim. I'm not going to let this one go without a WHORAH!!! Tell me....have you ever heard of a U14 Ringette team to take the entire season and then come up against three teams in the end, three teams who had nothing in their sights but to take the leader down?
I'm sorry, but I for one am beyond proud at this moment. It looks so easy from the stands. Cheering parents can ooohhh and aahhhh, but let me tell ya...there are bumps and bruises that I wouldn't want.
There are crushing moments when passes are missed and posts are hit. There are penalties and questionable calls,  but in the end our players, our coaches and our parents rocked it. And when I say "rocked it" I mean.....they ROCKED IT!!!

Game one of the finals saw the Mitchell Stingers come to knock off the St.Marys Snipers first thing Friday morning.
The Snipers were put on our back blade when the Stingers came out of the gate full on force. Mitchell claimed the first two goals in the first 3 minutes of play, which had the players on St.Marys bench snapped back into reality. This was not going to be handed to us, we were going to have to fight every step of the way.
Full time found the Snipers on top with points going to #13 Mackayla Hayes who helped put three of the 7 goals into the cage of the Stingers. Cierra Boyer, Jill Unich, Halley Robertson and Shayla Lane also defeated the Mitchell goalie by hitting the back of the net with that beautiful blue ring.
Game number 2 of the finals brought the Ice Crushers down from Goderich. They were hot to take the Snipers off the podium as they had been our only "tie" of the season. But the U14 Hubbard Pharmacy/CanadaTrust ladies were having none of that. Although Penalties were high in this challenge, a total of 10 minutes being served by St.Marys, The Snipers managed a 5-2 win over the Goderich team securing a place in the Gold Medal Final. Katie Gratton was on fire this game with a goal and two assists credited to her jersey. Our defence players Jill Cunningham, Grace Shearer and Allison DeJong were fighting hard in our end which saw them in their own little box more often then not!
Game three on Saturday morning brought the HEAT from Hanover. The St.Marys team had settled down and were ready to face their challengers head on. The penalties were kept down to 6 minutes and one of the defence players, Grace Bertrand decided she wanted to hear the swish of the net too, making it a third win for the U14 Snipers 3-0 over Hanover. Yes that's right,  Goalie - Abby Cunningham has put another notch on her stick.
Our third win also saw #17 Katie Stevens and #12 Melanie Martins push through, catch the passes and  send the ring onto the next Sniper waiting in the wings.
The Gold Medal Final saw some very serious players come off the bench from both sides! Hanover Heat had come to the barn with winning on the minds. St.Marys Snipers were there to defend their streak and take the GOLD. Forwards #15 Emmy Jeffery and #6 Jadyn DeBoer were fierce in the attacks and checking. The Heat would not be deterred and the Snipers battled on. New-comer to the sport #8 Natasha Hicks was seen smiling though the whole game. Natasha always made the crowd cheer with her sheer will to take on any opponent. A very physical game ensued and a total of 28 penalty minutes were served by the two teams combined. Neither group of ladies were willing to give up. They battled for the ring to the bitter end with a questionable goal not awarded to the Hanover team right on the buzzer. Although the end result would have been the same with a win for the U14 Snipers 4-2.
I'm proud of our team of players, coaches and parents. I'm proud to have my children involved in a sport that as a parent I love to watch and believe molds my kids into thoughtful, strong and passionate young adults.
WHORAH St.Marys SNIPERS.....WHORAH!
